Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the Frequently Asked Questions about Q-plus Bridge:
The new version is much slower than a previous versions - why?
The speed of the program depends on the setting of the playing strength configuration as shown in the program menu item: "Configuration / Playing strength".
During the installation the program tries to find the best values for the specific PC, but this does not always work.
Please proceed as follows:
- select the menu item of the program: Configuration / Playing Strength
- reduce the playing strength level, e.g. from 42 to 30, or from 48 to 36.
Does Q-plus Bridge run on a Mac?
Q-plus Bridge - like the other bridge programs from Q-plus Software -
needs the Windows operating system, and on a Mac it would run only
if a Windows emulation program is installed there.
A "Windows emulation" is a program
which creates on a Mac an environment
for other programs (like the bridge program) so that they believe they are running under a Windows PC.
You get this program (and perhaps other emulations)
from the Apple dealer;
if you tell him that you want to run a Windows program on the Mac
he will realise what you mean and what you need.
Does Q-plus Bridge run on an iPad?
No, and for the iPad there are no Windows emulations available.
Does Q-plus Bridge run on Android devices?
For the time being not, but we consider porting it.
Can two people play together with Q-plus Bridge?
Yes. Two players on two unconnected PCs can tell each other the actions they have done.
Q-plus Bridge supports also playing over a TCP/IP net, i.e. LAN or Internet.
Can I define new bidding systems?
Yes, Q-plus Bridge has more than 150 conventions (or treatments), and individual bidding systems can be formed by activating a set of those. The default bidding systems are, in fact, nothing else but specific configurations of the switches.
Can I define a new convention not
already in Q-plus Bridge?
No, Q-plus Bridge cannot learn new conventions.
Is Q-plus Bridge copy protected?
Yes, there is a copy protection in the form that at the end of the installation you need to activate the program using your product key, and the number of activations (i.e. installations on different PCs) is limited.
What is the price of Q-plus Bridge?
This depends on the country and on the distributor. Typically, about the same price is asked as for the competition, i.e. the (few) other good bridge programs.
Please contact one of the distributors.
Are there special hardware requirements?
No. Important is only Windows 98 or higher. See also the system requirements page in the Q-plus Bridge tour.
Is Q-plus Bridge suitable for an absolute beginner?
Q-plus Bridge does not teach the rules of bridge, it assumes that the user knows them. A beginner will heavily be beaten by the program. Under the premise that he or she will not get discouraged because of that, a fast progress can be achieved, particularly as Q-plus Bridge offers many help and explanation features.
Still, as first program, "Begin Bridge" by Bernard Magee, is the first choice.
